PartyNet

Welcome to the ASSEMBLY '02 PartyNet! Hosted once again at the Hartwall-Areena, the PartyNet is even bigger than last year, capable of hosting more than 2700 machines.

This document will guide you through the process of connecting your computer to the partynet as well as provide assistance on how to make the most of the partynet. If you have no prior experience with network cards and their settings, reading this should prove very useful. If you are already familiar with networks, this document simply shows what settings you will need. It is very important that you read this document even if you have attended Assembly in the past, so that you avoid any problems in using the PartyNet.

In any case, make sure you PRINT THIS AND THE LINKED DOCUMENTS and bring them with you to the party. If your network connection at the party does not work, you will not be able to access this document.

What's new

If you attended Assembly last year, you pretty much already know everything you need. There haven't been any major changes.

However, please read the entire document if you are not completely confident with your ability to configure your network - experience has shown that the line in front of the NetInfo booth is long
and there are always a lot more people needing help than those who can give it.

PartyNet services

In addition to the physical network (and a connection to the Internet), the NetCrew provides several (local) network services.

First and foremost is the Assembly'02 Intranet server at (published later), featuring all the local news and information you will need.

As ever, the Assembly IRC server is at (published later) and is (like last year), connected to IRCNet. There is no local EFnet server but efnet.cs.hut.fi will accept connections from Assembly.

For distribution all releases made at Assembly'02 (and more), we have a high-capability FTP server at (published later).

For more local news and general talk, this year we have a local news servers at (published later). A Usenet news server serving Assembly can be found at news.cs.hut.fi.

And finally, for your web-browsing convenience we have a very fast WWW/FTP proxy at (published later) port 8080 . To use it, in Netscape choose 'Edit' -> 'Preferences' -> 'Advanced' -> 'Proxies', or in Internet Explorer 'Edit' -> 'Internet Options' -> 'Connection'.
